Emily O’Rourke-Mills is a Marriage and Family Therapist. She is licensed to practice in both Colorado and in California where she provides telehealth appointments to individuals and couples. She holds a Bachelors degree from The University of Colorado at Boulder (Go Buffs!) and a Masters degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies. In addition to her work with clients, Emily provides clinical supervision to MFT candidates and teaches at the University of Denver and the Denver Family Institute.

With more than 15 years experience in mental health care, Emily views healing as a revolutionary act, and is honored to witness people on their path to living fulfilling, rich lives.

Emily believes therapy should be a challenging, curious space where all of who you are is welcomed, celebrated and attended to with care and respect, even the parts of yourself that you may feel ashamed of or want to get rid of. As Carl Jung said, “we cannot change anything until we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses.” Acceptance does not equal permission and Emily invites clients to practice compassionate discipline with themselves in their journey toward change. Emily believes that humor, grace, curiosity and compassion are necessary for healing.

Emily practices from an anti-oppressive, Health at Every Size, harm reduction, liberation framework and specializes in working with folks who identify with the LGBT+ community, folks who are experiencing perinatal mood disorders, folks who want to examine their relationship with substances and first responders.
